After growing food in a rented market garden for some years, my partner and I started the Purple Pear Biodynamic farm and installed the mandala market garden to supply the CSA which we are both passionate about.
Great food for children is a principle driver for what we do here.
I have been passionate about permaculture since completing my PDC with Bill at Tylgum in the mid nineties.
I have build two community gardens - one through a TAFE ourtreach and one through work for the dole. (neither exist today.)
I have taught Permaculture for ten years now and have in the past run a business "designing, constructing and maintaining edible landscapes"
I love what I do with the farm as an organism including the garden and the animals and the course participants and the wwoofers and the CSA customers - all contributing to a community, a sustainable community?
Taking a cue from Tom Kendall - future updates will be under the Purple Pear or TT Maitland
Today at Purple Pear I attempted to workshop the production of three Cheeses in a three hour learning session as part of our sustainable living skills.
A workshop conducted for a local council on pest control and companion planting, today, bought most interest on sprays for the back yard.
The Mandala Market Garden concept was introduced to me in the Linda Woodrow book "the Permaculture Home Garden" The interaction to the elements in the system make it special to me.
It is people that make Purple Pear special. We are building a community around the farm concept and look to continue to build.
