Project Summary

Permaculture Noosa is one of the earliest permaculture groups formed in Australia. Its first president and founder was Geoff Lawton. It meets monthly to share knowledge, produce, plants, seeds, and socialise and has over 200 members. All are welome every third Thursday of the month at the Cooroy Memorial Hall.

Project Description

Permaculture Noosa has over 200 members living on the  Sunshine Coast of Australia. Members meet on the third Thursday of the month at the Cooroy Memorial Hall. From 7pm there are members market stalls selling produce, and plants. There is also a seed savers stall and a library for members.There are always  great informative  speakers and the night  finishes up with a cup of tea and supper. the public are welcome at all their  meetings.
Permaculture Noosa also conducts open days on members properties and regular permablitzes. They also have a huge annual  presence at the Nambour Garden Expo where they create a   permaculture kitchen garden with their sister organisation Yandina Community Gardens. Permaculture Noosa members are also actively involved and supported by Permaculture Noosa  in school gardens,  teaching permaculture related courses and the Transition Town movement.

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
