Dear Colleagues:
I am writing to inform you about two exciting opportunities for scientists
engaged in agricultural research. We are now accepting applications for the
2013 Agricultural Research Connections (ARC) Workshops and the Program for
Emerging Agricultural Research Leaders (PEARLs) program.
Agricultural Research Connections (ARC)
The ARC workshops will take place summer 2013 in Nairobi, Kenya. The goal of
these unique workshops is to catalyze new international research partnerships
among high-caliber scientists doing agricultural research with the potential
to create new pathways out of poverty for African farming families. In
addition to learning about agriculture in Kenya, participating scientists will
tour regional laboratories and facilities, visit local farmers, and engage in
discussion sessions to explore with other workshop participants possible
collaborations that could contribute to the advancement of agriculture in sub-
Saharan Africa. Prior international experience is not required and first-time
visitors to Africa and early career scientists are especially encouraged to
apply. If you are interested in participating, please complete the online
application by May 15th, 2013. For more information and to apply, visit
http://www.regonline.com/2013agriculturalresearchconnectionsworkshop.
Program for Emerging Agricultural Research Leaders (PEARLs)
The PEARLs program is an opportunity for African scientists working in
National Research Programs to lead projects in agricultural research with an
international collaborator(s). Although many of you receiving this email will
not be eligible for this opportunity, we hope you will pass this on to your
African colleagues or consider working in a collaboration with an emerging
African Scientist. The application deadline is September 30th, 2013. More
information on this program is available on the www.gatesfoundation.org
website under 'Current Grant Opportunities' or at:
http://www.gatesfoundation.org/How-We-Work/General-Information/Grant-
Opportunities/Program-for-Emerging-Agricultural-Research-Leaders.
Please feel free to forward this information on to anyone you think would be
interested and eligible. We hope things are going well in your projects and
hope to see your applications to these exciting opportunities!
