Michael is an Agricultural Specialist with Equipping Leaders International https://equippingleadersinternational.org and an Agroforestry Expert with reNature Foundation https://www.renature.co.
His interest in Permaculture came through an interest in perennial food production and a desire for nutrient-rich foods. He is particularly interested in the value of Agroforestry and Permaculture for Agricultural development, food security, and medicinal plants and herbs. Michael has a Master's Degree and a Graduate Certificate in Agroforestry from the University of Missouri. He obtained his PDC via Geoff Lawton, PRI, in 2013, and had been a student of Sustainable Agriculture for over 25 years prior to obtaining the PDC.
Michael's prior career experiences as a licensed Financial Advisor and Human Resources Executive, as well as various areas of emergency management, have given him unique perspectives on the economics of Agricultural Development and the management of inputs. Michael also has degrees in Political Science and Business Management, giving him important knowledge of policy formation and financial development.
He received a certificate in Permaculture Teacher Training in 2015 at Kinstone Academy of Applied Permaculture from Wayne Weiseman. He has taught the PDC at the college level, presented various workshops, and, given numerous lectures on Permaculture to a wide variety of groups. He has also consulted with numerous landholders for Permaculture Design Plans.
Michael is presently creating a Permaculture demonstration site on acreage in the northern Shenandoah Valley of Virginia (temperate climate). he has active projects in Kenya, Sierra Leone, Kwa Zulu-Natal, and Malawi.
One of his ultimate goals is to promote Permaculture and Agroforestry at the collegiate level and in developing countries where adequate nutrition is not readily available.
