The school produces so much 'compost tea' from the Bokashi system in place in the school canteen, there is surplus to requirements for the school garden. Therefore in an attempt to intergrate permaculture into the wider school community, I approached the Busness Studies Department and asked if students could carry out a marketing project with the aim of selling the excess to parents.
A small group of students volunteered, and despite a slow start, they have been successful. They collected plastic bottles recycled from home and school and applied their specially designed labels. They also displayed posters and wrote an email to parents to advertise their project. The response from parents has been very encouraging and we've sold 7 bottles in the first week - so far so good!
Next proposed project - Earth Day 22nd April - a day in school in Dubai without electricity?!
