We've been doing some systems analysis of our Perma Project and prioritizing for the coming thaw. We've had some very unseasonably (strange) wintery weather here that pretty much shuts down the jobs I had outlined a month ago. Normally, I would be digging swales and building berms, assembling sheet compost, laying huguls, this time of year, but not this year.
We have a foot of snow on the ground still and the weatherman says it's going to stay around at least another two weeks. So, what do you do when the weather shuts you down. We look to inside jobs that have been put aside because the weather was nice. You know, we all tend to do this. Sometimes there are jobs that come up during the growing season that we just don't get around to because of the busyness of the season. Now's the time to see to those jobs so they don't get set aside again.
I have a reedfield system about half constructed. The inside plumbing could be a priority in these cold days. Also, there's still finish work (lots of it) that need doing inside the Community Center. We have a small common area with kitchen, bathroom, classroom and three offices. Since this is a double wide mobil home that we are recycling by converting it to adobe/strawclay, there are interior walls that need to be plastered. We also need to be planning how the whole bathroom with a real flush toilet should be laid out.
There's plenty to do, even when you can't get out in the soil. Dig in!
