Permaculture Design Teacher Training in Kenya October 8th - 15th!

Posted by Sheena Shah about 6 years ago

Take your Permaculture Career up a notch and take our teacher training (ToT) with us in Kenya this October 8-15th in a wildlife conservancy!! This will be our THIRD internationally recognized ToT that you don't want to miss out on!

PRI Kenya is hosting the third Permaculture Teacher Training in Kenya this October 8th-14th with Caspar Brown! This seven day intensive workshop will empower you to teach permaculture effectively and creatively. This workshop is relevant to anyone teaching permaculture in any situation and those who hold a PDC - you will discover a wealth of tools to support your own journey as a permaculture educator. IIn a supportive, fun and dynamic learning environment in the gorgeous Swara Plains Conservancy, you will have the opportunity for hands-on teaching practice, utilising a diverse range of teaching modalities in design and land assessment.

This course is designed to equip participants with participatory Permaculture facilitation skills, as well as a solid understanding of the standard content of an international PDC. Based on their Permaculture experience, participants should be able to co-facilitate or assist on PDCs after this course, particularly courses training adult learners. This course will be taught by internationally accredited permaculture practioner – Caspar Brown.

This will be the THIRD TOT Course hosted by PRI Kenya and International faciliators, this time led by Caspar Brown, at the Swara Plains Conservancy. Swara Plains proved an appropriate and poignant locale to host the country’s first ever training of permaculture teachers in 2014 and the second in 2015, drawing from far and wide a group of amazing people from Kenya, greater East Africa, and around the world. An understanding of these themes was a unifying thread for this very special group, drawn from diverse backgrounds but committed to devising and supporting ways for communities to achieve greater abundance and resilience by maintaining mutually supportive relationships with the ecology.

Participants who take this course are clearly present as emissaries from diverse communities, all of which need a new type of leadership and a different way of approaching the question of how to create stability and well-being in a manner that is not only sustainable but actually cultivates regenerative relationships with landscapes and natural resources. Each of these participants clearly return back to their respective communities equipped with new tools to bring about just this sort of positive change. From the past courses, pastoralists from the far Kenyan north departed with insights into peacemaking techniques to offer to warring tribes in their homelands. Project managers of existing permaculture-based initiatives gained tools to strengthen and expand their programs. Several staff members of development NGOs have stated their intention of bringing insights from the course into their work in program design and management.

Course topics include, but not limited to…

  • teaching permaculture with well woven combination of creative presentation methods
  • practicum and group work
  • using storytelling
  • designing
  • awareness exercises
  • feedback integration
  • facilitation as a holistic learning journey
  • integrating course learning with site, group dynamics and natural learning patterns
