During the month of March 2011 the Pucon Transition Initiative held its opening public meeting to launch a series of events for the year. With Andrew Langford and Liora Adler of Gaia University in attendance the first public event was a roaring success.
After almost a year of planning, networking and behind the scenes work to gather a team, win some funding from the government, and gain the support of local council and organisations, this was a well planned and orchestrated learning event that has energised a community.
The Pucon project was brought to life in 2010 through the work of Jose Castro and Martin Araneda two permaculture designers and associates of the Diploma in Applied Permaculture Design. An initial public talk explaining transition was offered by Grifen Hope and Javiera Carrion in January 2010. This led to a small group forming, holding regular meetings, and then a series of public movie screenings.
In late 2010 the group saw an opportunity to find the resources necessary to create a series of public events this year following the 12 step transition planning process, and to document it with a professional film crew. Here you can see the results in this short youtube clip Pucon in Transition.
