The full time APT students armed with knowledge and skills from Cert IV and Diploma are heading off on new permie adventures. Some are heading overseas to work on permaculture projects in Thailand, Cambdia, India, Mouritias, others are planning to establish a permaculture enterprise or take their studies further.
Highlights of 2011 have been numerous, there've been wonderful events at the gardens, open day was a resounding success, and students have found many opportunities to work in the wider community as part of their course work: creating a children's garden at Nimbin Preschool; working with Barkers Vale school; working as Permaculture Challenge instructors with over 50 high school students; conducting research and surveys for the Nimbin Food Security group; the garden at Muli Muli Aboriginal community; local and regional sustainability forums; and raising awareness of the Coal Seam Gas threat to our beautiful bioregion. There's been spontaneous PermaBlitzes around the neighbourhood and the student community gardens at Djanbung has seen the most abundant year yet! Recently two of our students were invited to present permaculture solutions to the Australian Youth Climate Conference in Brisbane, inspiring over a thousand young people.
These things sustain hope in a planet full of problems. We are proud of what our students and past graduates are doing in the world, empowering others and being the change... We are the future makers, and at PCA we support our students to be powerful and creative advocates of permaculture and healers of the earth.
Check out Charlies video of a catchy song he wrote for hist Permaculture Principles presentation in class 'No Such thing as waste' during his Cert III in Permaculture at Djanbung
