Beehive House: a Self-Sustainable House

Posted by Juliano Riciardi almost 14 years ago

Beehive House: a Self-Sustainable House

The Project Beehive House was started in February 2009 by the family of artists and designers permaculture Riciardi Julian, Teresa Dominot Tiê and his son, who conceived and built with his own hands, on the southern coast of Santa Catarina.

It is located in Beach and Garopaba South, a region of splendid nature 150 km south of Florianopolis, in the municipality of Jaguaruna, near the Cape of Santa Marta Lighthouse.

At first the idea was simple, build bio a chalet in ecological space of 600 square meters using the principles of permaculture ¹, to welcome them, and that she could provide all the family's basic needs: shelter, food, energy, culture, resources , health and wellness.

In this small space gardens constructed mandalas and medicinal plots, agroforestry, dry toilets, ovens, dryers and solar heaters, country kitchen with stove, living fences, roofs bio buildings with living accommodation for volunteers, library and video library, arts workshop, recycling , composters, worm farm, biological filters, water harvesting, nursery and playground.

With time, the Beehive House began to take the air of a Coastal Station Permaculture, by the way of life conceived in her, calling the attention of people from all over the world to know it, learn, teach, cooperate and even expand more goals.

Today after only 2 years the family has achieved even more than the desired dream in the beginning.

The house became a home self-sustainable. This means that the house generates for the family and the people who live in it, activities, energy, food, miscellaneous resources and a rich learning environment that radiates more and more interested in inspiring others to live a lifestyle similar and sustainable.

The Beehive House became in a short time, within their community, a Reference Center on Environmental Sustainability, Economic, Cultural, Family. The proposal widened the horizons of founder and family who have gone through there.

Currently its main focus is to generate innovative work in society and consistent in Education for Sustainability, using a range of practical, human and family, based on domestic life and the ecological collective learning.

Here the residents build bio-spaces, produce their own food, generate knowledge and interchange, learning materials, create art and crafts, attend the community, get volunteers, develop activities in schools, offering training courses, conduct educational workshops for various public and with different themes related to sustainability.

Now the couple, along with a collective of permaculture plan to take the idea to other locations and start other projects houses self-sufficient, adding the values from the Beehive House and expanding the horizons and prospects of housing and self-sustaining life-giving.

Want to be part of this expansion? Then tell us how you would like to contribute by contacting us.

We are now seeking a more bio billding to a more sustainable project like this. email: casacolmeia@hotmail.com www.casacolmeia.wordpress.com
