The Swale is collecting water from snow that has fallen on it, plus meltwater runoff. Total snowfall has been c.12 inches, some of which will have sublimated. So far the Swale has maintained standing water for around 2 months, but then we are in our wet season now. The real test will be whether enough water soaked into this heavy clay to soak moisture under the berm to support growth in July, August and September. While the Swale has so far been popular and beneficial for the deer, elk and moose, I won't know until spring if the constant traffic over the berm is going to let anything much grow. Judging from the tracks, the berm is where everyone hangs out these days!
