Back to Marc Van Hummelen's profile

It's been 1 year and a few weeks after I've laid my hawthorne hedge. it's growing well, there's new shoots everywhere and the cutting wounds are gradually growing over with callus wood. I still have to deal with sceptical neighbours and passers-by, though. They call it sheer luck that the hedge is still alive after my brutal vandalism. Some say it's only because of the reserves in the plants that leaves are still forming, bound to die within a month or two.
I've tried explaining, told them that it is a very old technique to treat hedges, but somehow they don't register that. Oh well, time will prove them wrong. Here are some pictures. You can see lots of young shoots at the base of each bush, and the callus wood starting to form. I hope it will further fill up with young branches through spring, as I am planning to buy a few runner ducks. The hedge is supposed to keep them in the garden.
Here's a link to last year's photo album of the hedge laying.
