Portable rocket cooker

Posted by Marc Van Hummelen about 13 years ago

I took some photos of the making process of a simple rocket stove and made a DIY guide out of them. Check it out in this post.

Mari Korhonen inspired me to call it a portable rocket cooker, and that's what it is of course, but this name distinguishes it from the rocket stove mass heater which has a different purpose. I noticed that there's sometimes confusion about the name rocket stove because they think of the mass heater. The basic idea is the same of course, but the heat of the cooker is used to heat up pots and pans (and you can move it around); the heat of the rocket stove mass heater is used to heat up the mass that is attached to it, which then stores the heat and gently warms the room it is built in. I learned to make it from a guy on youtube, but it took him 20 long minutes to explain the whole thing. I think these photos will do the trick in less time, and really it's a wonderfully simple thing to make. here's the link to the album, enjoy and feel free to comment!
