I have had a successful 37 year career in industrial sales and through Permaculture I am developing my encore career. My wife has served out her career in public education. I have been a gardener since childhood and began my journey into Permaculture in 2012. We practice the Permaculture design science principles on our own 15 acre property.
In 2012 I was diagnosed with Lymphoma Cancer and began chemotherapy treatments. During that time over 9 months, I did intensive research on my personal food consumption and realized the benefits of a plant based diet. The change in my diet has enhanced my recovery and today I am doing quite well. During that time I had also launched a garden club focused on natural, organic methods. It was during this time of research and facilitating the club that I came across Geoff Lawton's body of work and I began to study and follow his methods. I completed Geoff's online PDC and since that time I have continued to self-educate and grow in my design practice.
Through Permaculture and on our own 15 acre property and others I am continuing the work of spreading the message of abundance, restoration and stewardship of our own piece of the earth. We harvest rainwater, planted a food forest, currently over 700 fruit trees, nut trees, berry bushes and vines as well as other perennial herbs, plants and ornamentals. We have created a new tree planting system for flat land named, Island Guilds. We utilize even the slightest grade and layout Islands of wood chips that slowly sponge and wick up the water providing a self-watering affect for the plant guilds in the Island.
We have created the beginnings of a Permaculture outreach in our public space through Facebook named, Central Virginia Permaculture Institute. We have designed and structured a Permaculture Company named, Keypoint Enterprises, consisting of small micro business units that function stack the skill, talent and ability of young people and offer Permaculture solutions to our community.
My intentions are to build a reputation of excellence and integrity within my community as a practitioner and resource hub of Permaculture.
