Trained as primary school teacher, secondary school Biology. Also forestry & civil engineering, ICT, laboratory school and industrial design.
Worked in graphics industry, training adolescents, adults and seniors. Self-employed since 1993, working in The Netherlands and Western Australia.
Born in small town, hamlet really, close to nature. Always stuck with me. Been volunteer in environment movement, organising workshops, demonstrations, writing petitions etc. Worked at Kleine Aarde, Boxtel. Came into contact with permaculture and did PDC while in Western Australia. Started practice as permaculture consultant and teacher in The Netherlands.
Now doing educational permaculture projects with Fontys Lerarenopleiding Tilburg and running PDC courses at De Twaalf Ambachten in Boxtel. Organising informal permaculture network in Dutch. From 2012 organising permaculture education in Dutch Caribbean. With Fransje de Waard, Mauricio Deliz, Claudio Madaune and others.
Developing the Mirjam C Schmidt Botanical Gardens into self-reliant and resilient system in public space. Kick-off in October 2013
Aardwerk organises the first permaculture design course on St Eustatius (Statia), one of the three Dutch Caribbean islands.
