Self-Sufficiency, Rabbits, and Rabbit Poo... %)
Bunnyginup started from two rabbits, six chickens, and a few garden beds to feed them. It's a self-sufficiency project insofar as I supplement my pension with food either grown here or bartered by produce and product.
The name was only added this year, and, working backwards, "up" is Australian Aboriginal for "place of," "gin" is "stream or many streams" and "bunny" is a current English word for rabbit... So it could be called "The Place Where The Streams Are Chock Full Of Rabbits."
Originally the project was a backyard project near to Perth in Western Australia, but more recently it's moved to the Southwest into the agricultural belt because here I can lease a farmhouse with about an acre of land and perhaps one day raise the money to buy that and the 24 acres surrounding it.
The Australian Southwest has been in the grip of an ever-worsening drought, and the farmers out here are doing it tougher every year, resulting in more and more walk-offs and sales and mergers.
One thing they are doing is doggedly sticking to the old broadacre concepts, and of course it's not working out well. Bunnyginup intends to be a little "thorn in their side," a way to show the interested ones that there are other livestock and crops and methods, many of which will work far better in the climate as it's shaping up to be...
I hope that by showing another way of doing things, we may still save some of the land in WA from being laser-levelled and murdered... %)
Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.
MemberA member is a permaculturist who has never taken a PDC course. These cannot become PDC teachers. Members may be novice or highly experienced permaculturists or anywhere in between. Watch their updates for evaluation. |

PDC TeacherPeople who claim to teach some version of PDC somewhere in the world. |
|
PRI TeacherWith the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable. PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows. |

The manure Problem, Solved
A chance discovery, a chance article online a few weeks later, and a chance gift of poultry. Of these things is life sometimes composed...
Movin' It A Second Time

Movin' It
How do you move a household, 70 rabbits, and assorted poultry and pets 300km? Answer: Almost all in one day...

Please excuse me while I ramble about the "good ole days" of Bunnyginup...
