Found my way back. :-) Not easy to get rid of me. :-) Winter, so not much to report except I visited with Merrill, my first cousin, who I rarely see. Turns out he as extra land where he lives and is growing grapes in ZONE 3. I was so surprised that there was a strain of grapes that would do well in such a short growing season. He mentioned that all 900 of his plants were started with cuttings from others known to him. A visit to youtube informed me that april is a good month to take and start cuttings. My two acres is mostly too wet for grapes, but the dryest part is in a sunny area where I could try a few dozen cuttings. I will probably use my BCS walk behind tractor to make some swales approx 20 inches wide and about 10 inches deep and plant grapes in the mounds on each side of the swale. There would be table grapes and (cough cough) some grapes for wine making. Glad to be back here as this is one of my favorite sites.
