Connecting communities one person at a time

Project: E-village

Posted by Bryan West over 13 years ago

Nurturing key relationships within the community has proven fruitful to getting the e-village off the ground.

I met today with a couple of people from the local Neighbourhood Centre.  We have spoken before, and the first meeting was one of "those" meetings that seems to meander around and about and not go anywhere.  But, have faith did I, and since that time they have been engaging a broad range of other people in conversations about the e-village concept.

Support has been rallied.  And, the best thing is that they found a bucket of money to fund someone to do a whole heap of data entry to get it up to speed. This means that it will not be launching as a blank slate that is too easy for people to ignore. Instead, it will launch as a functional resource that the community has struggled to get off the ground for 20 years.

April 1 is the launch date.

Between now and then I seem to have at least half a dozen appointments to share it with groups of people, and from each of those history tells me that I can expect more of the same.

As with permaculture's emphasis on patterns in design, the pattern of communications and pattern of relationship building has been instrumental in getting us to this point.

Legend of Badges

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI Teacher

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
