Here we are using the Council Verge out the front to plant a Native Strip using local South Australian native plants, to start with we have planted Flat Sedges, Knobby Club Rush, Muntries, Ruby Saltbush, Seaberry Saltbush and Pig Face , the plan is to plant it out with Natives that are also Bush Tucker Foods and plants suitable to weave baskets from.
I have recycled a chook feed bag and used bamboo sticks to make a plant guard as people walking past keep steping on a Sedge plant.
I have also painted the Stobie Pole out the front with a Native Purple Swamphen or Pukeko as they are known in New Zealand. These beautiful birds are one of my favourites and since the Murray River is at the end of my street the Swaphens are also there.
