I first found out about peak oil in 2004 and became interested in permaculture a while thereafter. I have mainly concentrated on peak oil activism (spreading awareness of the issues) by giving public lectures, publishing essays online and recording some radio talks for the ABC plus the occasional interview on other radio stations (whenever the fuel price rises and the public regains interest in the issue). Currently my interests tend more towards food production and population growth (e.g. effects of oil depletion on food production, the imminent - if not past - peak in phosphate production etc.). I have implemented permaculture principles around my house including reaching out to my community by example - growing veggies in the front yard and sharing surpluses etc. In my other life I lecture and do research in genetics at the University of Adelaide.
Conduct a competion whereby people grow vegetable patches in their front yard. The overall purpose is to encourage home-growing of food and to make it more acceptable in the community to use the front yard to grow food in urban areas.
