A new website called Practical Plants recently launched, making great strides towards the noble aim of providing a free space for both collaboratively assembling permaculture knowledge and making it easily accessible.
Nearly all of the data currently available has been forked from the project Plants For A Future, who kindly make their data available under creative commons license, although their website is closed to editing. While a lot of old data needs to be audited to improve its accuracy, there are still huge gaps in coverage of plant species, since PFAF focused primarily on plants suitable for a temperate climate, particularly for the British Isles.
That's where you come in. When you have a moment, drop by and help us to make this website all it can be! You don't need vast amounts of knowledge to help out, as there are some things that couldn't be perfectly imported into this site's improved structure of linking uses for plants to the relevant part(s) of said plants, so please help us bring about that improved accessibility.
The genius web-developer who designed this website has implemented a form structure that makes it far easier to add or edit data on articles than with a typical wiki, so there is no steep learning curve in order to contribute.
