A degree in the environmental sciences was followed by some years of practical scientific research and to the discovery of Permaculture , a design course in 1991 and then 2 years later the Diploma of applied permaculture design awarded for his work in developing urban permaculture in south-east London . For the last 19 years Steve has been designing and leading courses all over the world , UK , France, Zimbabwe, Benin, Guadeloupe, Roumania, Albania, Turkey, Belgium, Marocco, Spain and Poland . He ran the UK Permaculture Association office and then moved to France where he is a founder member of the French Permaculture network ” Brin de Paille” and founded and directs the Université Populaire de Permaculture, a network of permaculture learning centres in France. He leads courses in both French and English.
In 2007 Steve developed a design for the development of a francophone permaculture network and this continues to form the basis of the work of the different parts of the francophone permaculture family. In 2009 Steve proposed the creation of the first Permaculture Festival in France, this attracted over 500 people and was followed in 2010 by one in Belgium and this was attended by over 1000 people who came for the mix of workshops, talks, courses and music.
Steve has several projects for 2011, a series of Permaculture/yoga course, 2 books, a film, music album with his group Fune and 2 stage shows. He is also working to help the continued development of the Francophone, Turkish, Roumanian and Polish permaculture networks, the French apprenticeship scheme and the development of a European Permaculture alliance whose aim will be to bring about change at a EU government level.
