Growing up on a small hobby farm in country Victoria, Australia, I began reading various Grass Roots magazines in the ‘90’s which not only helped cultivate my keen interest in organic gardening but it also exposed me to Permaculture at an early age.
Keeping the idea of a future in sustainable landscaping at the back of my mind, it was only when I ventured through Morocco and Senegal in early 2011, when I realised the potential of what Permaculture could achieve in these places given that, for example, Senegal only receives three months of rain each year, the rest of the time its dry and hot.
Come March 2012, I found myself in Thailand doing a PDC under instruction of the very knowledgeable Mustafa Bakir. With my eyes opened and the horizon full of possibilities, I continued North in Thailand, putting knowledge into practice, and designing a couple of systems with farms I visited and lived at.
My most recent learning project was in South-East Haiti, where I was living, travelling and working (not in an NGO) for the last couple of months. It was my first time working in a developing environment, so naturally, my knowledge and experience was really put to the test. I came out of it learned, aware and eager to work in similar situations.
For now, as of mid-September, I’m finding my roots in Montréal, Quebec, where I hope to get involved in the P.C scene and start designing complete balcony systems incorporating compost and other heat-providing sources to get the garden through Quebec’s infamous Wintery months.
