About Simrit Malhi

My love for the moon and stars as much as for the earth, first led me one of the oldest Biodynamic farms in India, a beautiful home and farm in Kollenchery, Kerala. There I lived and learnt how to use the traditional Vedic calendar with BD principles. I also completed a BD course at ISKON Mysore, India taught by Peter Proctor and Rachel Pomeroy. I then wwoofed at a beautiful eco hotel in Goa, India (http://www.wwoofinternational.org/news/?p=11) where i learnt natural building and EM and the importance of making it all look pretty :) I landed my dream job shortly after of staying at and reviewing sustainable hotels for www.traveltocare.com where I got to travel around South Asia for 2 years meeting inspiring people in beautiful places. I have recently started my own ecological landscaping and farm design company, SEED - Sustainable. Ecological. Exterior. Design. (https://www.facebook.com/permaseed)

I had heard about Permaculture but never followed up on it till I bought a farm in the Pallani Hills of Tamil Nadu. The farm is shared between us three friends, one of whom is also a permie. I was interested because it was organic farming from a broader perspective - much needed for the farm. I completed my PDC in Thailand at Panya Project (http://www.panyaproject.org/) taught by the amazing John Champagne.

I now 'perma -design' everything from balconies in the city to gardens and farms under SEED. The farm we share is called Roundstone Farms, where the first swale will be made in September 2011. I am also in the process of starting a working Permaculture network for India.
