I am a Lawton PDC grad striving to be a symbiotic organism in my ecosystem. I first started growing things in the early 1990s and have been an avid urban farmer for over a decade. I'm a South Carolina Master Naturalist and Master Gardener, as well as a speaker, teacher, writer, occasional consultant, and constant student. I often prefer teaching and writing to consulting.

I brushed off permaculture for years when I first heard of it because I assumed it was a new gardening fad and felt like I was already submerged in sustainable activities. Like many people, seeing the Greening the Desert video was my, "Eureka!" moment. I used to feel fatalistic about the world's trajectory but permaculture has brought me sense and hope.

I currently run a local permaculture society (human guild) that just passed the 600 member mark. We hold monthly educational meetings, permablitzes, community events, and have just begun a large permaculture demo garden that doubles as a seed and plant bank for our members and triples as an outreach to the urban neighborhood and elementary school kids (it is located at a school). I am also teaching permaculture-related classes at a state historic gristmill/homestead, at a small local food grocery, and at a downtown community garden that I designed. I write magazine articles for various publications. I do occasional consulting work but mostly pass it off to the other capable PDC designers in my area.
