I come from a lifestyle that is typical of white American suburbs. I never really agreed with it, but for a long time it was all I knew. I'm pretty handy with computers, and for better or worse I have a good understanding of this nonsensical, culture-less culture that I live in.
In 2008, I began taking my education (and really my whole life) into my own hands. In spring of 2009 I cut out of community college to privately study a wide array of subjects, including permaculture. I started a garden, built a compost pile, and made a worm bin (vermicompost). In fall/winter of 2010, I flew to the island of Molokai in Hawaii. I spent 2 months camping around the island while attending four consecutive permaculture courses, sponsored by the Permaculture Research Institute USA and Sust'aina'ble Molokai. In 2012, I spent the year living and working on an organic farm in Illinois.
In 2013, I've finally been hired to design and implement a permaculture system. I'll be doing that for the rest of the year, and I can't wait to show the United States that permaculture is here to stay.
I've got my shovel in the dirt
A veteran landscape architecture company has contracted me to create my first Permaculture design on their home property, and then implement it.
