I bought a flame weeder last Christmas and assembled it yesterday. I have an old strawberry bed that is in need of some rehab. I let the chickens and ducks onto about one half of the bed for about 3 weeks. Yesterday, I used the flame weeder to try an eliminate as many weeds as possible. I have a lot of creeping charlie in the old bed that I can't seem to make a dent in it. I've pulled and pulled and it comes back with a vengance. Hopefully, between the chickens and the flame weeder it should help. Today, I planted some new Aromas strawberry plants. Now I'll have half an old strawberry bed to compare with the new half.
Other projects this spring/summer are...
I have some hops plants on order to try in my area.
I ordered a hardy Rosemary plant that will hopefully overwinter here.
I'm thinking about prickly pears in the front beds.
I grafted some trees last year with good success. This spring I tip grafted some asian pears onto rootstock I planted last year. We'll see how they progress.
The tiny pond and swale are working, but I need to dig the pond deeper to help it hold onto water. I like the water feature and my bee hives use it all the time. This way my bees won't be bother the neighbors hot tub for water.
Hope everyones spring is awesome. Pray for lots of permaculture progress in the coming months.
Pete
