Permaculture Design Course (PDC) at Findhorn, Scotland in May 2015

Project: Findhorn Ecovillage

Posted by Gabrielle Hamm almost 10 years ago

The permaculture design course offers a comprehensive introduction to permaculture principles, design practices and their application, with a particular focus on permaculture in community.

9 - 22 May 2015 - Early booking discount 20% off if booked by 9th March

What to expect on a Findhorn PDC

Guided by Bill Mollison's curriculum this 72-hour permaculture training will be spread over the 14 days, allowing participants ample time to digest the theory, get hands-on experience and become part of the daily rhythms of the Findhorn learning centre.

Permaculture Design Course Permaculture Design Certificate

This Findhorn College permaculture design training is a one of a kind opportunity to gain an accredited PDC in the world renowned Findhorn learning centre and living community - set within an idyllic Scottish coastal environment

Lead by qualified Findhorn Faculty and invited guest presenters, participants learn through a variety of indoor taught sessions, participant co-lead discussions and outdoor exercises. As a means to integrate the learning journey, all participants are required to engage fully in a permaculture design project. Designs will be presented to the Faculty and the learning community upon completion of the course.

Certification
The course will be certified through the British Permaculture Association

Faculty
Findhorn's qualified residential faculty Gabrielle Buist and Craig Gibsone, guide participants through practice, theory and the permaculture design project.

Location
Situated at The Park, Findhorn ecovillage, the course draws on the Findhorn Community's founding principles: co-operation with nature, inner listening and service learning.

Participants of the permaculture design course will have the unique opportunity to base their design projects on actual developments taking place within the Findhorn Ecovillage settlement.

Findhorn Learning centre encourages participants to observe the permaculture principles, in action, and experience how permaculture design principles and processes influence management systems and site development in an experimental living environment.

Legend of Badges

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI Teacher

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
