Theory is fine, but practical matters sometimes make you adjust the details.

The gray water system does not accumulate water after all! This has been a surprise to us. But it has never overflowed! It turns out that the water plants we put into the system - showy canna lillies - are quite thirsty once they get growing. And with nutrient-laden water from the house and with the tilapia waste circulating, they really grow fast in the tropics - We had lillies over 7 feet tall which I cut down and subdivided this week! Gotta keep an eye on those lillies and not let them out of control.

The solid waste side of the toilet does not accumulate much material. I had visualized a mountain of feces, but we two just don't make all that much apparently - 10 gallons in the first 7 months is all (including toilet paper). We make a lot of pee though (with rinse/flush dilution). I have applied four 50 gallon drums of fermented pee solution to the coffee plants and fruit trees nearest the house - they appreciate it. But young seedlings do not thrive with it.

We called this a coffee farm, but prolonged drought here is killing a lot of our coffee plants. So we are looking at cocoa trees and increasing citrus, and maybe even macadamia nuts and vanilla orchid. Stay tuned.

Natasha Turner : If my memory serves me correctly, pistachios don't mind dry conditions. Yum! Sounds like you guys are doing some great experimentation there. Any chance for pictures? ;-)

	PRI Teacher With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable. PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
