Since coming up with this plan just last August so many lessons have been learned that I no longer chastise myself for not moving fast enough. In fact, my original projection of events was so unrealistic it's laughable. For a start, I envisaged a crowdfunding effort before Christmas! Talk about getting ahead of yourself. I have no money to pay for a website designer and every other 'duck' that needs to be lined up before a successful kickstarter. I must do everything myself and only now, in June, am I even getting near to having 'our story' ready for the scrutiny that will come when I start to raise money for this thing.
I could have moved faster but only were I a wealthy man of leisure. I'm not, I have a living to make, a child on the way, projects to keep going, responsibilities. It will be a long time before this charity is in a position to pay me for all my hard work so it has to sit on a lower step for the time being; below our work in Spain, below the continued building of the eco-lodge in Morocco, and well below my wife and the child she carries.
So the main lesson learnt along this journey has been to not lose sight of priorities and to not stress about the time. Our neighbours are Muslim and for the large part, uneducated. They live in the now, as God wills it, which while enviable is also very frustrating and will be the biggest obstacle to making this work in the long term. I have piqued their interest, you might say, but I have yet to inspire them.
Enter Darren Doherty, who needs no introduction here. It was a briefly snatched two days of his tutelage, three years ago, which first set my mind on this course of action and I have been determined that it should be he teaching our first and most important PDC. I know he can inspire the men here. The women I'll involve in due course, just as soon as I can - I have aquaponics ideas for them.
For now, all I have to do is get bums on seats for the 6th October. The rest will follow.
