don't feed grain to the birds rotating over a bed...........unless you want a green manure crop rather than the crops you planted LOL

I guess that should have been obvious if I'd thought about it but unfortunately I didn't, oh well the chickens will enjoy eating it when they get back to that bed in 5 months or so!!! and I might get a chance to dig it in once before then as well.

Mark Brown : Dear Andy - a great idea that - to grow your mulch so near to where it is needed. Just pull it when it is young and prop it there to mulch and feed the crop. You are brilliant.

andy macey : ha ha thanks for pointing out my inadvertent brilliance Mark....... maybe this is 'the problem is the solution' at work hey? I've been pulling it and feeding it to the chooks or into the compost bin so it's not going to waste....trouble is I can't see whether seedlings are hidden beneath so I'm at risk of killing what I've planted if I pull with too much enthusiasm
