My husband and I are currently turning our backyard into a permaculture haven. We call it "The FoxStead."

Last year, my husband took a course in Asheville, NC called "Permaculture in Action." He gained a course credit there and brought home lots of useful information. We learn on a daily basis through techniques, experiments and trials that we incorporate into our backyard garden.

We have used berm and swale techniques, dug a dry creek bed, began raising chickens and are big fans of hugelculture beds. We also enjoy "Jungle gardening"-- where the plants are not sitting on scalped topsoil in rows, but are instead hidden among local flora (AKA: Weeds), and therefore, hidden from the local fauna (Insect Pests, in particular).

We have joined this site to learn more permaculture techniques, but mostly...to connect with like minded folk who may be interested in building a community that will be sustainable into our post-collapse future.
