Tajweed, derived from the Arabic root "jawwada" meaning to improve or make better, refers to the set of rules governing the correct pronunciation of letters and the proper articulation of words in the recitation of the Quran. Its primary aim is to ensure that the Quran is recited as closely as possible to the way it was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
