I completed my PDC with Geoff Lawton and Bill Mollison in 2012. Prior to that I spent time WWOOFing in North America and Europe. Both of these experiences were huge turning points for me in terms of my world view and reassessing what is valuable and worthwhile.
At home in Canberra, I live in my grandmother's house and grow as much food as I possibly can in my big veggie garden which my partner and I designed together. Recognising the huge impact industrial agriculture has had on the environment, including human health and culture, we cast our vote every time we eat breakfast, lunch or dinner. We grow, forage, ferment, experiment and generally spend our time enjoying a more mindful relationship with our surrounds.
I also work part time at a primary school teaching vegetable growing as a part of the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation. I feel incredibly fortunate to be paid to do something that is fulfilling and worthwhile.
Each Friday my big dream for life seems to have been revised (sometimes radically), but at this moment I lie awake at night thinking about farming somewhere in a way that regenerates the community surrounding the farm in a whole heap of ways....local economy, health, environment....
If my house ever caught fire I would save my permaculture books.
