About Dipesh Pabari

Dipesh Pabari is currently the Africa General Manager for Camps International, an international award winning responsible travel company that specializes in school expeditions and gap year programs. He has worked extensively as an independent writer and consultant providing training, facilitation, technical assistance and research in the areas of Conservation, ICT, Media Campaigns, Fundraising, Strategic Communications, Education and Event Management as well as a teacher. Dipesh was the Director of the SAMOSA festival 2008 and co-organizer of the Kwani Litfest 2008 and also taught in various private schools in Kenya. He is now based in Diani, Kenya and married with two girls.

Interest in permaculture started through colleagues in our Borneo operation which lead to contact with the Permaculture Research Institute in Kenya and a 3 day course at Camp Muhaka.

Together with the Permaculture Research Institute of Kenya (PRI-Kenya), Camp Muhaka has developed a permaculture design for its 3-acre farm that includes a greywater system, production of fruits, cereals and vegetables as well as cash crops such as chillies and moringa, a woodlot, a nursery and a composting system. The farm is integrated with the new Polytechnic being created for the community that will teach useful skills to local youth in an effort to address issues of unemployment in the area. The farm also aims to be a demonstration site for the local community on sustainable agricultural techniques, as well as offering food processing facilities such as oil presses and food dryers.
