About Jacob Dye

For more than a decade, Jacob Dye has practiced GIS (Geographic Information Systems) as professional in the field of water resources engineering and natural resource management. Mapping resources and changes to the landscape is a critical component to a successful permaculture project. Jacob's use of GIS allows for quick changes to these maps for a dynamic, living design plan.

Jacob began his permaculture training in Costa Rica under the tutelage of Doug Bullock, Bruce Hill, and Stephen Brooks. In the tropical rain forest he learned about permaculture design principles & methodologies, patterns in nature, reading the landscape & site analysis, natural time cycles & successional planning, Indigenous cultivation traditions & practices, ecosystem restoration / toxin bioremediation, soil building, erosion control, & earthworks, hydrology & aquaculture, on-site waste disposal & recycling, biological pest-control, home gardens & edible landscaping, forest management & agroforestry, integrated animal systems, design for catastrophe, building design & energy conservation, natural architecture & alternative construction, renewable energy resources, appropriate technology, financial & legal structures / strategies, urban permaculture & village design.

His current project is with his home in Denver, Colorado, where projects include permaculture designs, nursery establishment, tree crops, perennial fruits and vegetables, and water systems.

Jacob is an avid homebrewer and enjoys welding functional steel structures and sculptures.
