Dr. Walid is a researcher and engineer, who graduated as Mechanical Engineer from one of the most well-established engineering school in Tunisia. He pursued his master and PhD studies in France to specialize in Materials Sciences. Walid was Lead Principal Investigator in several research projects in Texas A&M University at Qatar. In parallel, he grew a particular interest in healthy lifestyle and ecology, which led him to discover the world of Permaculture. In 2018, he decided to meet his Permaculture mentor Geoff Lawton in Zaytuna farm and get certified as a Permaculture Designer in the Permaculture Research Institute, Australia.
Later in 2018, he engaged in a project led by Geoff in Jordan, where he accumulated experience in Permaculture Strategies in Arid Lands. Greening the Desert Project includes selection of vegetation acclimated to hot and arid land, food forest in arid and hot lands (pioneer species, leguminous trees, fruits trees, shrubs…), shading strategies, chicken compost system, mulching strategies, drip irrigation system, soil rehabilitation etc.
Dr. Walid was the first to design and implement his permaculture ideas in several farms I Qatar including Heenat Salma farm in 2020. Finally, he managed to open his own company in fall 2021 and is today a full time Permaculture Designer in Qatar, where is started to provide his own services of consulting in design, business to business trainings and has several collaborations to develop the more than organic agriculture in Qatar.
Because Dr. Walid is a researcher, he is also interested in acclimation of seeds in Qatar, making seeds more resistant to heat and salinity with the use systems designs.
