My background is as a science writer turned gardening instructor/youth-worker turned permaculturist. I have advanced permaculture diplomas in teaching, media, design, design implementation and community service from the Int'l Permaculture Institute.
I have been teaching permaculture worldwide since 1981, having taught the first certificate Permaculture Design Courses in several countries (e.g., Mexico, Ireland, Philippines). Since around 1982 we have published a sporadic journal under several names, currently The International Permaculture Solutions Journal, filling the need for more advanced information of pertinence to permaculture. For the past 15 years, we have offered an annual six-month Permaculture Design Course Online.
At Barking Frogs Permaculture Center we have been experimenting with the development of certain types of chinampas, container gardening, and warm-temperate variations on forest gardening. We have a program for converting a section of Florida marsh to baldcypress swamp. My personal contribution has been the development of 'Principles of Transformation' for permaculture, understanding how things change so we can direct the change.
