I am an artist, art teacher and gardener. I grew up on a farm in rural Quebec and belonged to a movement based on self sufficiency. The principles of Permaculture are not new to me, but have helped to solidify and reinforce my beliefs regarding sustainability.
I completed a one year Permaculture Design Course with Jason Gerhardt at Naropa University and found it to be gratifying and inspiring. From the principles I learned in the class, I created a food forest in what I call my "outdoor room" in the backyard. The before and after pictures stunned my friends with how much an environment could be changed within a few months.
I continue to build my food forest and will soon be the the happy owner of a small flock of hens. I am beginning to help others develop their own gardens through designing and creating drawings. I see myself as bringing art and permaculture together, both in the way I do design drawings and in the way I create gardens.
I started this garden April 2011. The more desolate photos show what it looked like in April. The after shots were taken in early September. This shows what one can do with sheet mulch and some TLC.
