(projects i'm involved in)
I was born in Carson City Nevada and raised in historic Virginia City. When I was less than a year old I spent time in the garden my mother planted. I was basically born into the garden. By the time I was 7 or 8 I snuck some seeds from my mother’s collection and went off to a nearby empty lot and made a small garden plot with nothing more than a stick. It was a simple set of rows with seeds planted every 5 or 6 inches. I soon forgot about the garden I had planted. It was not protected in any way, open to the sky, rabbits, dogs, coyotes, squirrels, deer and the occasional kid on a bicycle. Somehow my garden survived! On walk-about one an early summer day I happened across the little garden ad was surprised to find cabbages, carrots, lettuces, spinach, radishes and few other plants, that at the time I did not recognize. I ate all the spinach, cabbage, the lettuce, radishes and the carrots. The flavors I still remember quite vividly!
That was it, I was now a gardener for life.
Currently I am practicing Permaculture and studying sustainable agriculture and building techniques, traditional methods of indigenous cultures while researching science and modern ecological issues. Aside from all that I also manage a small family owned lapidary studio. I am also seeking a bachelor's degree in Environment Engineering In the spirit of, why not take Permaculture to academia? I happened to take my PDC while also taking biology and geography at a community college. I found the pairing of study a way to greatly enhance your understanding.
My first project I determined during the PDC on a 1 acre parcel in Silver City, NV USA. Once finished or a good plateau is reached I will post the design plan as a way to see how a design plan changes over time. Or the comparison of what you thought you would do vs. what you did do.
