Ed is from Argentina, and likes designing, fixing and making things. Ed grew up in Buenos Aires (a huge city) but his direct family has ongoing farms too, including one leader of a permaculture community group (Jorge Rulli) and another one a large cattle/gmo soy producer (a contrast which makes for fascinating family reunions). Ed has a background in physics, engineering, machine learning & evolutionary systems; and has architecture/design, carpentry, and electronic skills. For work Ed is the CEO/CTO of an international nonprofit based in Silicon Valley that makes technology for health, crisis response and sustainable development; originally started by Google, called InSTEDD.
I came to be involved in permaculture with early exposure to Jorge Rulli's work in Argentina, where I was shown things I was not equipped to see yet. In my work in global humanitarian and development assistance, I see the root causes for a lot of pain and dead ends can be avoided with community independence, abundance, and resilience, and see Permaculture as an important building block to achieve it.
My current activities include setting up our own homestead and contributing to communitie's design as part of Skokomish Farms in the Pacific Northwest of USA.
