In my day job, I am an electrical engineer. I like figuring out how things work (hence the degree, I guess); interested in science and technology, and sometimes putting things together in odd combinations to get interesting results.
I gained an interest in gardening when I was in college, but didn't do much with it until after I graduated in 2009. I started a small garden, with a few plants, and then expanded to a few more the next year; with the recession I wanted to become more self reliant. I started reading some gardening books, learning new techniques, and planning how to optimize things. I made in ground beds and planted some hardy kiwis, then upgraded to raised beds, and started growing strictly organically. I then learned about permaculture, through reading more books, and discovered that is was the most comprehensive and sustainable methodology for food production I had seen yet, plus the ethics that come with it. I also began looking for property to start a farm/homestead on, and decided to take a PDC to gain some knowledge before attempting any large scale designs.
I have purchased a property, taken a PDC, and am now working on getting my experience and funding up before I tackle my own broad acreage design. I am currently offering to design family and friend's properties to expose myself to varying situations and design constraints, to increase my practical design skills for my own property.
