- Nancy Niche and Green Gage Farm
Green Gage Farm is a B&B in northern California that models several permaculture methods; hugelkultur, ditch on-contour rainwater catchment, a large composting operation, livestock, organic farming/gardening, greywater wetland filtration, bio swale watercourse, etc. Guests are encouraged to discover our land.
We are a part of the new focus on green building, sustainability and permaculture practices in regards to agriculture.
There are lots of edible things growing here as a part of the landscape; apples, plums, apricots, Asian pears, Bosch pears, guava, lemons, elderberries, nectarines… the list goes on and on. Our biggest harvests are walnuts, persimmons and grapes. And, of course we have eggs.
However, when I say to people, “I’m a farmer,” they ask what it is I ‘grow.’
I make soil. I plant things, sure. But my passion is compost and soil development. Earthworks with impact!
