As a child i worked frequently on the family cattle farm and through that experience I believe some seeds were planted for appreciation of the enthralling dance of plants and animals we call permaculture, however they didn't start to sprout until after graduated from university as a sociology/anthropology major, and spent quite a bit of time in other countries seeing how their societies worked.
Through observation, and learning some history, I came to understand that life can be lived very differently and more enjoyably by working with what I call the "existing technology" to create community, food, energy, and abundance on every level. Permaculture came to me when I was in the Himalayan foothills in western China through a fellow traveler. It has steadily altered the course of my life in ways that continue to astound me.
I'm an owner of Middle Rogue Farm in Grants Pass, OR and we are practicing permaculture in a farm rehabilitation project. We got ahold of an old community landmark that had fallen into disrepair. It is a 6.5 acre urban farm with a 30-year growing history. We are retrofitting it for permaculture style growing methods including food forests etc. Our intention is to create community through food and do it in a way that partners with nature.
