I was raised on a New England dairy farm. When I graduated high school, I told my dad that I would probably end up on a farm somewhere, but not that one. Life there was too damned hard.

The local farmers back then were beginning to realise that the soil was deteriorating, and that without chemical fertilizers they could not raise enough crop to feed the cattle. They also knew that these chemicals were destroying the life of the soil.

The soil is a living organism, and an essential element of this living planet. Composting in its many forms can restore healthy ecosystems and nutrient cycles in soil. The wellbeing of the people and the planet demand that the means of (food) production be placed back in the hands of the people.
