I am a native New Mexican hailing from the Atomic City, Los Alamos, New Mexico. Following graduation with a degree in Fine Arts from the University of New Mexico, I spent 10 years working as a newspaper photojournalist and documentary photographer in Albuquerque, the south-ish (Kentucky), and Maryland. I came to my senses, returned to New Mexico, quit journalism and later married the love of my life who just so happened to have a 27-acre Apple orchard/vineyard farm 100 miles east of Albuquerque. Long story that.
Starting in 2004 I developed an interest in agriculture, organic gardening and hydroponics. Through hours of YouTube searching and attending years of State Organic Conferences, we were able to certify our Farm, grow and sell tons of green chile and apples, literally. I managed also, finally, to find some interesting Permaculture videos in 2013 or so. This led of course to the Geoff Lawton Online PDC in 2014. Like most, the certification process has helped to open my eyes to the scalability of Permaculture, and of the critical importance of Urban Agriculture.
Currently I am working on transforming both my front yard and two other backyards in to productive gardening spaces. This includes sheet mulching, raised beds, herb spirals, keyhole gardens, and of course an economical way to propagate and germinate and soil-build to a nice abundant polyculture.
Additionally, I am very lucky to have been given the opportunity to partner with a local food bank located on Albuquerque's west side to install a large community garden to provide fresh produce for the food pantry.
