I am originally from South East Queensland, Australia, where I taught at a high school and set up a school garden based on permaculture principles. Several years ago, I moved to northern Italy and I'm teaching at an international school in Turin where I've been busy working with a great team of students and teachers designing a permaculture demonstration site.
At the heart of our permaculture project is the school garden which connects most of the 500 students at the school with growing their own food, and with the natural environment. The garden produces food for the school cafeteria and we compost nearly all the waste from the cafeteria in our compost piles and worm farm. We've installed solar panels, a wood-pellet heating system and water-storage tanks. We're creating a food forest and we have two frog ponds, dozens of fruit and nut trees and we have hundreds of kids inspired about permaculture and protecting the environment. We currently introduce teachers and students at the school to permaculture principles and have ambitious plans of conducting a PDC for teachers and students next year.
