I am working as a postman and a volunteer at a Community Garden called New Shoots at Hesketh Bank, nr Preston Lancashire PR4 6RD.I have done lots of different jobs from, making sun beds, to timber yards, to courier service.

I got in to permaculture though working in the community garden as a volunteer as we where setting up the site we had invited Victoria Dewhurst from Off Shoots in Burnley to come over to point us in the right direction, which she did thank you. One of our team did a PDC with Off Shoots and passed. So I decided to do one to, I am coming to the end of my course with Angus and the group that I have been in we have had a great laugh and had are eyes opened to the future!

The project I am working on at the moment is the New Shoots Community Garden, where we are trying to encourage the local community to grow their own food in a sustainable way as well as teaching them a new life skill. The whole site consists of about 4 acres of land, of which the community garden has about 1 acre, the rest has been lovely turned in to 62 allotments. I have an allotment myself which is coming along, and this year I am trying a new method to me called No Dig beds. Where you put cardboard down on the floor then mulch over it with different layer on material, so far I have done 1 side of my allotment. I will let you know how I get on later.
The New Shoots site consists of Poly Tunnel, raised beds, No Dig beds, wild flower meadow, Apiary with 2 hives, wild life pond, an edible woodland garden. plus lots more to come. If anyone would like to come and visit please feel free to come and have a look, everyone will receive a warm welcome.
