I am starting a permaculture homestead with my husband. We own 217 acres and will use 15-20 acres for our food forest, home, outbuildings, hugelculture (?), chickens, hogs and cattle.

We will plant grain and alfalfa in the land that left over. I realize that's a mono-culture but we are committed to growing all our animal feed. We are considering going with dry land farming, even though my husband is a well driller!!
