Plataforma de Permacultura

Project Type

Rural, Residential, Demonstration

Project Summary

The Permaculture Platform, has two main purposes: establishing in a 700m2 a sustainable system and the recovery of a urban place near by.

Project Description

This two main purposes fit in the Permaculture ethics and principles.

We will take care of the earth on the land, and in a old building that we call it "urban", that was a support site to make and store wine, store cereals, a bakery and even had a grocery, that still has the furniture of the earlies XX century, will focus on taking care of the people and share the surplus.

The land as 700m2, so the challenge, it's how to make it sustainable and productive using a mist of urban permaculture and rural Permaculture. So trying not to separate both techniques, but always as much as we can, use small spaces techniques in a rural spot.
It as 3 distinct soils, a sandy /clay soil, a sandy/stilt  and a sandy soil. It's facing North, so the wind it's something that we'll have to deal with, but also a opportunity to have some energy from it.
There is a well, that during the summer had water, but the objective it's to capture water as much as we can.
The land will be a demonstration site in a short term, but also a place of transition to a CSA system, that in Portugal is not that know and the urban space it's a very good place to support it.
There are huge challenges in Portugal today, and one of them, it's our dependence of imported food, with our lands abandoned and people without a job.
We are hopping to find a way, that through Permaculture etichs we can demonstrate alternatives.
This project, will have the habitability to give permaculture courses and events, but it does not restrain it self to one land alone, it's all the lands that we can get that are abandoned , and work in then, in a Permaculture way,
But this one, it's our starting point.

During this year, we will be placing some wind protection edible shrubs and trees, using the hot compost , worm composting, and observing the water inflitration in the soil.
We will be posting our advances.

Legend of Badges

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI Teacher

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
